How Our LX Life Began

Over the years we've owned many cars; too many to count or remember.  But a few years back we made an epic road trip from Las Vegas to Colorado Springs in a rented vehicle and realized how much we like the long, over-land adventures and decided to look into a vehicle of our own. We wanted one that could take us to remote 4x4 only kind of places, one that could provide a way to sleep in the vehicle for dispersed camping nights and, more importantly one that was dependable with proven longevity, and would stand the test of time.

After months and months of research we decided on a Toyota Land Cruiser. Then the daunting task of finding one took place and we quickly realized that not only were they hard to come by, but they carried a hefty price tag as well.  So, back to the drawing board we went;  more research, more time, more highs and lows.

EUREKA!  The Lexus LX470 fit the bill completely, and in our neck of the woods, it was actually more affordable than the Land Cruiser.  Hmm....same dependability, same longevity, same platform, and more PLUSH....Yes please...I'll take one!

In October 2016 we acquired our first LX. It was a '98 100 Series with 206,000 miles that we fondly refer to as Brick (it makes a funny noise like the character Brick from the TV show The Middle).  Since that time, Brick has undergone some major changes and upgrades.  It wasn't long before we were flipping a coin to determine who go to drive Brick on any given day.  It was time for "his and hers" models, and soon we were on the hunt for LX #2.  In November of 2017, we purchased a '05 100 Series with 154,000 miles and couldn't be happier with the truck we named Axle (Bricks brother on the same TV show).

Since our original purchase in 2016, we've driven 66,000 miles combined. We've enjoyed adventures near and far, difficult and easy, and couldn't be happier with our vehicle choice.  We've discovered a mutual interest in overland travel, off-road adventures, seeing new things, making new friends and enjoying what we call "our LX life".  This blog is the documentation of all things LX in our life.
